Student Team Wins International Biomedical Engineering Competition
A team of ZARMED University biomedical engineering students has won gold medals at the International Biomedical Engineering Competition held in Istanbul, Turkey. The winning team, consisting of five undergraduate students, designed an innovative portable diagnostic device capable of performing basic blood tests in remote areas without access to laboratory facilities. The device, named "MediScan," uses microfluidic technology and smartphone connectivity to deliver results within minutes. Key features include: - Rapid blood glucose, hemoglobin, and cholesterol testing - Results transmitted directly to healthcare provider databases - Battery-powered operation suitable for field conditions - Cost-effective design using locally available materials "We wanted to create something that could make a real difference in healthcare delivery in rural Uzbekistan," said the team leader. "Many communities lack access to basic diagnostic services, and MediScan can help bridge that gap." The competition featured teams from 45 universities across 20 countries. ZARMED's team was praised by judges for the practical applicability and innovative design of their solution. The university plans to support further development of the device through its innovation incubator program.
